Siesta Key Beach In Top 10 Again

Update: Siesta Key beach, Sarasota, Florida continues to garner top rankings and attract visitors worldwide.Travelers who voted on TripAdvisor.com's 2013 Travelers Choice Beaches ranked Siesta beach No. 1 in the state of Florida and No. 2 of its Top 10 beaches in the U.S. and No. 16 of top 25 beaches in the world.

In 2011, Siesta Beach was rated No. 1 in the U.S.A. for its dazzling white sand, beauty and clean blue water by Dr. Stephen Leatherman (aka "Dr. Beach") over hundreds of other renowned beach destinations.

The Travel Channel has ranked Siesta as one of Florida's & America's Top 10 Beaches. Its cleanliness, water quality and safety have earned Siesta a Blue Wave Beach designation by the Clean Beaches Council. Siesta beach's first major award came back in 1987 in the Great International Sand Challenge. The beach was rated "The World's Finest, Whitest Sand," beating out more than 30 other entries, including the Bahamas and Grand Cayman.

A study of Siesta Key beach sand by Harvard University's geology department found that the sand was 99 percent pure quartz grains which had originated over the ages from the southern Appalachian Mountains.
