Finding the Best Place to Stay in the Sarasota and Siesta Key Area

Whatever your reason for visiting the Siesta Key, Sarasota area, we want you to know that we are here to help you find just the right place to stay. We have lots of "hand-picked" rental property listings on this website and we offer lots of ideas to help you plan the perfect trip, whether its for a family vacation, a romantic getaway, a business trip, or to attend an event.

In case you've not yet chosen a specific location and you're looking for ideas, we'd like to provide you with an overview of what's available to you in the way of daily, weekly and monthly rental accommodation or a hotel here in the Sarasota area and along Sarasota's fabulous beaches. Each island has its own unique characteristics and you'll appreciate knowing the differences.

And remember, on whichever island you choose to book your stay, the Gulf beach and the Intracoastal Waterway is never further than a block or two away. At the same time, the Sarasota mainland is just a few minutes drive from the islands. On the mainland you'll find all the best in hotels, galleries, museums, performing arts theaters, restaurants, movie theaters, bars, shopping, nightlife, ice cream shops, coffee shops and live entertainment.

Siesta Key, Sarasota Florida

Let's get started with the island of Siesta Key and its amazing beaches. Siesta Key is so close to downtown Sarasota that it has been referred to as an extension of the downtown area. It may be close geographically, but once you're out on the island it seems like you're in another world, very far away.

We like to think of Siesta Key as having four very distinct areas, each with something different to offer in the way of beach vacation rentals and beach access.

The Siesta Village area is the ultimate in convenience by being within steps of restaurants, shopping and the beach.

The Siesta Public beach area offers full-service beach facilities and a beach that is the winner of Dr. Beach's #1 Beach in the Nation in 2011.

The Crescent Beach area offers a huge array of beachfront, bayside resorts and condominiums and has a little secret: one of the best snorkeling locations on Florida's Gulf coast at the southern end of the white sand crescent, called Point-of-Rocks.

The Turtle Beach area of Siesta Key offers small bay and beachside resorts with private tropical garden settings and romantic hideaways that get you just a little off the beaten path.

Lido Key Florida

John Ringling--of the Ringling Bros. Circus--knew a good thing when he saw it back in the 1920s; that's why he built bridges from downtown Sarasota out to the islands and established St. Armand's Circle as an international shopping destination just steps from the brilliant white quartz sand beach on North Lido. You'll love it when you see it too. Lido is not a large island, but it has top-notch hotels and stylish rental condominiums that even John and Mabel Ringling would be pleased to luxuriate in.

Longboat Key Florida

Longboat Key is indeed long--roughly ten miles from tip to tip. Exclusive gated resorts and condominiums with golf courses, tennis courts and private beaches mix it up with a few of the Old-Florida style beach cottages and motels. The relative scarcity of public beach access on this key means that most of the beaches are virtually private and are enjoyed almost exclusively by the residents and visitors staying in nearby accommodations. And nothing could be finer than the fine dining enjoyed daily in the many Longboat Key restaurants that proudly proclaim their award-winning chefs.

Casey Key, Nokomis Florida

Casey Key is the southern neighbor of Siesta Key. But being neighbors doesn't mean being the same. From the one-lane bridge connecting the north end of the island with the little town of Osprey, Florida, to the 1950s-era mom-and-pop motor courts and revamped Nokomis Beach motels at the southern end, this island screams "different!"

Venice Beach, Florida

Like in its Italian counterpart, life in Venice, Florida revolves around water. Quaint downtown Venice seems to merge seamlessly into the Intracoastal Waterway, the Gulf of Mexico, and Robert's Bay. Life in Venice is good and days often start with yoga on the beach and end with a handful of shells and fossilized shark teeth and a sunset over the Gulf. What Venice lacks in the area of big resorts it more than makes up for with its offering of quality small hotels and with well-appointed rental homes and condominiums.

Sarasota, Florida

Not everyone coming to Sarasota includes the beach as the main item on their agenda. Music, the Arts, sports, theatre and business all bring visitors to the Sarasota area. And the city steps up to meet the needs of local, national and international visitors with a full selection of short-term and long-term rental accommodations, from luxurious hotels to waterfront residential properties.
