Accommodations on Casey Key Beaches Casey Key accommodations are reminiscent of the Old-Florida style motor court motels. It's feels like you're going back to the good old days when you drive onto the key. The motels are largely clustered on the southern end of Casey Key where Albee Road meets Casey Key Road at Nokomis Beach. The rest of the island is almost exclusively residential, with multi-million-dollar homes tucked into the largely informal but lush landscaping on either side of Casey Key Road, which twists and turns lazily from bay to Gulf the entire island's length. Casey Key has no high-rise anything; everything is one or two levels in height. And the pace of life on this off-the-beaten-path barrier island is slow compared to the rest of Sarasota's islands. Even the speed limit through the quarter-mile-long motel district is a turtle's pace at 15 miles per hour. And that seems almost too fast. The Old-Florida motels and the slow pace of life attract snowbirds in the winter, just as they always have, but during the summer you'll find plenty of locals taking advantage of the lower rates for their weekend getaways and "staycations." And rates can get well below $100 in the off-season. What do the various motels offer? The "Suntan Terrace" is a pet friendly motel with 15 bay and Gulf units. They even have their own picnic area with a Tiki Hut and BBQ grills. "The Island House Apartment Motel" is a two-level motel with efficiency apartments facing the beach along with motel rooms without a Gulf view. "A Beach Retreat on Casey Key" is a thoroughly renovated and updated motel with a heated pool and 26 units on the bay and Gulf side of the island. They even have boat slips available at their docks. The owners of "The Beachcomber" live on their property which offers 12 units, from efficiency apartments to 2 bedroom 1 bath units. If you look hard enough you may find a real gem further north on the island among the multi-million dollar mansions, like the nine-unit Gulf Beach Resort Motel. This is a 1950s era motel that has established such loyal seasonal visitors that many book a year in advance. It's not fancy, it's Casey Key. Since these are small, family-owned motels their policies may vary, so be sure to check if you have specific requirements. Some may have 3-night minimum stay; others may not accept credit cards. Pet and smoking policies vary. Click Here for Casey Key | Nokomis Rentals
